About Us

Who We Serve

Homeless Mentally Ill
We work closely with Griffin Memorial Hospital and the Crisis Center to assist those persons who have no other place to go.

Near Homeless and Working Poor
The Near Homeless and Working Poor are assisted with food, utilities, rent, gas money and medicine, when funds permit, to help them avoid the loss of their jobs or homes.

Drug and Alcohol Addicted
We work with the Referral Center and the Crisis Center to assist those clients who need medical detox.

Disabled and Elderly
The Disabled & Elderly are referred through The Department of Human Services Adult Protective Services. Food baskets are delivered to their homes, prescriptions are filled, and many times blankets, coats, and needed household items are taken to them.

Disaster Victims
Disaster victims, especially victims of house fires, often need everything. Jesus House provides used furniture, appliances, household goods and clothing, as well as food, and often pays for emergency housing after the Red Cross time limit of 3 days is over.

How We Serve Them
Food
Meals are served 7 days a week, food baskets are given out 3 days a week, and emergency food baskets are delivered as resources permit.

Shelter
Homeless mentally ill, drug or alcohol recovering, and elderly or disabled persons sleep each night at the main shelter at 1335 West Sheridan.

Clothing and Household Items
The Jesus House Free Store across from the main shelter provides used clothing, furniture and household goods free of charge.

Crisis Assistance
Broken families, domestic violence, pending disability or unemployment cases, house fires, and other situations create crises for the poor. Jesus House assists with rent, utilities, transportation, and prescription medicine.

Recovery
Christian counseling and a spiritual program of steps toward a drug or alcohol free lifestyle are provided, as well as a work program.
