JESUS HOUSE COLLECTING FOOD DONATIONS FOR OUR THANKSGIVING FOOD BASKET DISTRIBUTION TO LOW INCOME FAMILIES

Jesus House of Oklahoma City is seeking donations for its annual 2014 Thanksgiving food basket distribution campaign. Each year Jesus House distributes hundreds of Thanksgiving food baskets on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving (November 24-26). The distributions will take place from 8:00 am until designated supplies for the day are exhausted. The food baskets typically contain most of the ingredients to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, including a frozen turkey or ham.

“The Thanksgiving food basket campaign is a signature event of Jesus House which helps low income households in Oklahoma City with groceries for Thanksgiving dinner. Last year, we distributed over 1,300 Thanksgiving food baskets in the three days before Thanksgiving. We expect to exceed those numbers this year.”

Items needed for donation for the distribution of Thanksgiving food baskets include: frozen turkeys or hams, boxed stuffing mix, chicken broth, turkey or chicken gravy mixes, instant mashed potatoes, canned cranberries or cranberry sauce, canned yams, chicken broth and canned vegetables. Dessert mixes and pie fillings are appreciated. Donations may be dropped off at the Jesus House offices at 1335 West Sheridan in Oklahoma City until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 25th.

Jesus House is an inner city, non-denominational, Christian outreach providing shelter, healing programs for those with addictions who have been mentality diagnosed, food and clothing to the homeless and low-income families of Oklahoma City. The Jesus House’s regular food basket distribution program provides hundreds of food baskets to needy households each week throughout the year and Jesus House works to build ministry relationships with these households through the Jesus House Adopt-A-Block outreach program to the low-income families in the neighborhoods we service.

More About Food Basket Outreach

Jesus House distributes essential grocery items to low income families three times a week with our food basket outreach.  On average, we distribute approximately 300 food baskets each week, with each food basket containing 30 to 50 pounds of food.  Food basket distribution at Jesus House is a long-time tradition and well known ministry to our community.  Our Thanksgiving dinner baskets are one of the most well known examples of successful food basket distribution in our area.  Distributing approximately 1,000 baskets for preparing a turkey dinner, our low income neighbors have come to rely on us for this important traditional dinner in difficult times.  We also distribute special food baskets at Christmas and Easter.  As many people in our community know through our food basket outreach, love lives here.
